The golden age of winter gardens was the Victorian era. The classic English winter garden of the Victorian era is a time-tested style and form.
This elegant design is a legacy of over 400 years of winter garden history in Britain. Since the 19th century, they have served as a place for plant displays and public recreation, and became an essential part of bourgeois homes.
We developed this project for a client who dedicated the top floor of their penthouse in the capital of sunny Tajikistan to a winter garden.
The main room of a Victorian interior was the living room, considered the face of the house. The dining room was the second most important room in the house. Its main decoration was the sideboard, decorated with intricate ornamentation. Wallpaper featuring complex floral patterns (primary shades of red, blue, and yellow) on the background and larger cream and brown flowers in the foreground was the most popular. Gothic-style wallpapers were equally popular: stylized leaves and floral patterns on a dark background.
